About Me - Devika

Who am I?

Just like you, i'm a girl who struggles with her body-image, and i'm sick of it! No more what-if's, no more I wish... this time I'm giving it everything i've got.

First things first, a little about myself. My name is Devika, and i'm a 20 year old  senior college student who loves hanging out with my friends, being silly, and making the most of life. Pretty much everything in that new One Republic song, I really want to look back at all of this, college I mean, and say that I regret nothing, and I did everything I wanted to. Nothing in life happens twice, and its up to us to make the most out of each moment.

I recently watched a movie, About Time, and it was not only surprisingly an amazing movie, but it really makes you think. For those of you who haven't seen it, it basically brings alive the idea of "what if you could go back in time and re-do a moment again, what would happen". We've all had those moments we would love to change, but in all reality, it wouldn't make us who we are today, that's a fact I truly and fully believe. That idea goes hand-in-hand with some other words I like to live my life, everything happens for a reason. Good or bad, right or wrong, things have happened in your past, and its best to just accept them and move on in life. Well, enough of this philosophical ramblings, and some more random facts about myself.

I'm currently obsessed with watching the weirdest TV shows, and yes, i'll admit they're really random but I love them all. I just caught up on The Mindy Project, and as someone who was annoyed by Mindy Kaling on The Office (one of my absolute favorite shows), I genuinely loved the shit out of The Mindy Project. So relatable and just so dam funny. Then, I moved on to The Tudors, on Netflix, a Showtime original show. Aside from the scandalous (and I mean REALLY scandalous scenes) it captures one of my favorite time-periods, 15th century England and the reign of Henry VII and his scandalous relationship with Anne Boleyn (the story my favorite movie, The Other Boleyn Girl, was based on). Such a good show yay!

More boring information, i'm a biology major who is going to start medical school in August. My goal for my last quarter in school is simple, have as much as physically possible, do the craziest shit ever, and get really fit and sexy for the summer, because like I said in the beginning of this ridiculous ranting post, there's no more room for I wish anymore because the only thing in my path is myself, and if not now, then when...

Sorry again for the most rambling post ever, but then again, I guess that tells you more about my personality than perhaps everything else I talked about here.

     Okay I'm done...

Mission: Get Fit For Summer

How many times have we told ourselves that this time will be the time, this time will be the last time, i'll finally get fit, i'll finally loose all that weight i've wanted to. Personally, I can't count on one hand how many times i've said that to myself, only to loose faith and give up a few weeks later. The number of diets, work-outs, plans, fads, and everything else i've tried can really make giving up faith so easy, but this time, I swear its different. And here's why...

First things first, college makes almost everything so much harder. Not only is there the stress of school, the lack of any free time, no sleep what-so-ever, and slew of peers that encourage junk-food and candy parties. We've all been there and we've all enjoyed every minute of it, myself included. However, there's a time to finally grow up and face the real world, and let me tell you, it's hard work! No more excuses though, this time we're going in for the long haul...

Rules for Success:

1. Don't do it alone.

Giving up on yourself can come so easily, and i'm always shocked by the excuses I can make up to convince myself to just ignore something, or stay in bed and not work-out one day. Having a friend alongside makes a world of a difference. You have someone to share your struggles with, someone to motivate you, someone to complain with, and finally, someone to keep you in check. It's definitely a key to success.

2. Be healthy!

Oftentimes, these fad diets promise results so fast and easily, that its easy to overlook how unsustainable and unhealthy they are. The last time I tried to loose weight and become fit was by basically starving myself and eating negative calories every-day. Sure, the weight dropped really fast at first, but soon, my body went into starvation mode and things took a turn for the worst (but thats a story for a different time). The point is, this time, we're being healthy. Making sure you get at least 12,000 NET calories in is essential and tracking your food accurately, as annoying as it may be, really makes a difference. I've found that the things I thought were healthy, are really not, and it's amazing to see that in moderation, you're not hungry at all. This time, we're going for a sustainable healthy lifestyle: eating healthy, nutritious food, balanced portions, and sustainable choices (more to come in a secondary post).

3. No lying, no cheating.

Let's face it, we've all told ourselves, "oh, if I just don't log this, no one will know I ate it". But in reality, who are we really hurting? Ourselves! Every thing we put into our mouth counts, from the extra chips to bites of cookies, everything matters, and in the end, lying only makes yourself loose. Be honest to yourself, and you may be surprised that you're going to learn things you maybe didn't want to, but needed to hear.

So on this blog, i'm going to post my daily diet, exercise and progress. For me, this blog is to share and record my experience, and learn from it for the future. So let this journey begin...

Mission: Get Fit For Summer is a GO!
